English is a valuable tool for missions. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) will open doors for you in closed countries and equip you with the skills you need to teach English cross-culturally.
Course Description
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is an intensive four week course that equips students to teach English cross-culturally. The course covers the theories and methods of teaching English, classroom management, learning styles, principles of language acquisition, and how to teach basic English grammar. The course includes a practicum in which the students have the change to practice what they are learning and receive feedback and assessments.
The course is open to non-native speakers, but they must be proficient in English in order to successfully complete the school. A DTS is not required in order to take the TESOL. Upon successful completion of the school, students will receive a TESOL certificate from University of the Nations.
Course objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:

Be aware of and understand traditional and current theories of language and language learning;

Know the subject matter - English: consciously know the rules of the English language (sound system, grammatical system and lexical system);

Understand language teaching methodology, especially the communicative method;

Prepare an assessment tool and conduct a student assessment;

Know and use various teaching techniques for teaching ESL;

Prepare instructional materials

Lynnette Hartman is from the USA. She has a Masters Degree in Education and a Doctorate in Theology. She pioneered a DTS in Murmansk, Russia where she also taught ESL. She has taught adults in community education and adult literacy and worked with young adults in Russia, Scotland, Hungary, Norway and the United States. In addition, she has taught more than 30 TESOL and ESL schools.

Registration fee: A nonrefundable Application fee of R200 for single South African applicants - (US$50 single applicants outside South Africa) is to be forwarded with the application. Your application cannot be processed without it.
The course is open to non-native English speakers who are able to provide proof of sufficient proficiency in the English language. The school is limited to only 10 students though, so apply soon!
